حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ غَدَوْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَا
ةِ فَسَلَّمْنَا بِالْبَابِ فَأُذِنَ لَنَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ الْبَارِحَةَ كُلَّهُ فَقَالَ هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ إِنَّا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا الْقِرَاءَةَ وَإِنِّي لَأَحْفَظُ الْقَرَائِنَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَمَانِيَ عَشْرَةَ سُورَةً مِنْ الْمُفَصَّلِ وَسُورَتَيْنِ مِنْ آلِ حم
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Wa'il (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Affan, from Mahdi, from Wasil — that he said: 'We went to visit 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud one morning after the Fajr prayer and greeted at the door. We were given permission to enter. A man from the group said: "I recited all of al-Mufassal last night." He said: "That is hasty [recitation] — like rushing through poetry. I have heard [proper] recitation, and I have memorized the paired surahs [al-qara'in] which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite — eighteen surahs from al-Mufassal and two surahs from the Ha Mim group."'
