English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Hammad, from Abu Wa'il — that 'Abdullah said: 'We used to say in the tashahhud: "al-salam 'ala Allah [Peace be upon Allah]." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not say: al-salam 'ala Allah — for Allah is al-Salam. Rather, say: Al-tahiyyatu lillahi wal-salawatu wal-tayyibat, al-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh, al-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadi Allahi al-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh [All greetings belong to Allah, and all prayers and pure deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger]."'
