English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Jami' ibn Shaddad, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Alqama — that he said: 'We were returning with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from al-Hudaybiyya. They mentioned that they camped in sandy soil [al-dahas]. He said: "Who will stand guard over us?" Bilal said: "I will." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If you do, you will fall asleep." They all fell asleep until the sun had risen. Some people woke up — so-and-so and so-and-so, among them 'Umar. We said: "Make some noise" — meaning: speak up. the Prophet ﷺ woke up and said: "Do what you used to do." We did so. He also said: "Do the same for whoever oversleeps or forgets [a prayer]." The she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had wandered away, and I found its rope caught on a tree. I brought it back to the Prophet ﷺ, who mounted it, pleased. Whenever revelation descended upon the Prophet ﷺ it weighed heavily upon him, and we would recognize it in him. He withdrew apart behind us, covering his head with his garment, and it pressed heavily upon him — until we knew that revelation was being sent down to him. He then came to us and informed us that [the verse] "Indeed, We have granted you a clear conquest" [48:1] had been revealed to him.'
