حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُدَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَرَّ يَهُودِيٌّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ أَصْحَابَهُ فَقَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ يَا يَهُودِيُّ إِنَّ هَذَا يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ فَقَالَ لَأَسْأَلَنَّهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ قَالَ فَجَاءَ حَتَّى جَلَسَ ثُمَّ قَ
الَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ مِمَّ يُخْلَقُ الْإِنْسَانُ قَالَ يَا يَهُودِيُّ مِنْ كُلٍّ يُخْلَقُ مِنْ نُطْفَةِ الرَّجُلِ وَمِنْ نُطْفَةِ الْمَرْأَةِ فَأَمَّا نُطْفَةُ الرَّجُلِ فَنُطْفَةٌ غَلِيظَةٌ مِنْهَا الْعَظْمُ وَالْعَصَبُ وَأَمَّا نُطْفَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ فَنُطْفَةٌ رَقِيقَةٌ مِنْهَا اللَّحْمُ وَالدَّمُ فَقَامَ الْيَهُودِيُّ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا كَانَ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَبْلَكَ

English Translation
Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu Kudaynah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from al-Qasim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from 'Abdullah who said: 'A Jew passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sitting with his Companions. His people said: O so-and-so, ask him about the soul. Others among them said: Do not ask him, lest he gives you something you dislike. The Jew went to him and said: O Abu al-Qasim, tell me about the soul. the Prophet ﷺ remained silent for a while, and I knew that revelation was descending upon him. Then he said: {And they ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is from the affair of my Lord, and you have not been given of knowledge except a little} [al-Isra' 17:85].'
