English Translation

'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه donated a horse in the cause of Allah. Then he found it being sold. He asked the Prophet ﷺ if he could buy it back. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do not buy it, and do not take back your charity, for the one who takes back his charity is like a dog that returns to its vomit.'
