حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُت
ِيَ بِجُمَّارَةٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً مَثَلُهَا كَمَثَلِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَسَكَتُّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ

English Translation
Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid who said: I accompanied Ibn 'Umar to Madinah, and I did not hear him narrate from the Prophet ﷺ except one hadith. He said: 'We were with the Prophet ﷺ and a cluster of fresh dates (jummar, the heart of a palm) was brought. He said: Among the trees there is a tree whose similitude is that of a Muslim. I wanted to say it was the date palm, but I was the youngest among the people, so I remained silent. the Prophet ﷺ said: It is the date palm.'
