English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Nafi' — from the Prophet ﷺ: 'Whoever frees his share — or his portion — or his stake — in a slave: if he has enough wealth to cover the [fair market] value, [the slave] is fully freed; otherwise only the portion he freed has been emancipated.' Ayyub said: 'Nafi' would sometimes include in this hadith [the phrase]: "Whatever portion of him was freed has been emancipated" — and sometimes would not. I do not know whether it is part of the original hadith or whether Nafi' added it from himself.'
