حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي نَ

افِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَبِيعُونَ لَحْمَ الْجَزُورِ بِحَبَلِ حَبَلَةٍ وَحَبَلُ حَبَلَةٍ تُنْتَجُ النَّاقَةُ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا ثُمَّ تَحْمِلُ الَّتِي تُنْتَجُهُ فَنَهَاهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya, from 'Ubayd Allah, from Nafi' — that he said: 'The people of Jahiliyya used to sell the meat of a slaughtered animal for [the price of] "habal al-habala" — and habal al-habala means [waiting until] the she-camel delivers what is in her womb, and then [waiting until] that offspring itself becomes pregnant. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade them from that.'
