English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Rahman, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from 'Abdillah ibn Murra, from Abi al-Ahwas — that 'Abdullah said: 'I would rather swear nine times that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was killed [by poison] than swear once that he was not. That is because Allah (عز وجل) made him a prophet and [also] took him as a martyr [shahid].' — [The narrator] said: I mentioned this to Ibrahim [al-Nakha'i] and he said: They held the view and said that the Jews had poisoned him, and [likewise] Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه).
