English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Sulayman, from Abi 'Uthman — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Let none of you be deterred from his pre-dawn meal [suhur] by the adhan — or call — of Bilal, for he calls the adhan — or calls — so that the one among you standing [in night prayer] may return [to rest] and the one sleeping may be awakened. [The true dawn] is not [marked] when it appears like this — or: like this — until it appears like this [spreading horizontally across the horizon].'
