Hadith #96
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَسْمًا قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقِسْمَةَ مَا أُرِيدَ بِهَا وَجْهُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ عَبْدُ
اللَّهِ يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ أَمَا لَأُخْبِرَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَا قُلْتَ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاحْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ وَقَالَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى مُوسَى قَدْ أُوذِيَ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ هَذَا فَصَبَرَ
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abi Wa'il — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a distribution [of spoils]. A man from the Ansar said: This distribution was not made seeking the countenance of Allah (عز وجل). 'Abdullah said: O enemy of Allah, I will certainly inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what you said! So I mentioned it to the Prophet ﷺ and his face turned red. He said: May Allah have mercy on Musa [Moses] — he was harmed with more than this and he was patient.'
