English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via al-Aswad, from Isra'il, from Fudayl, from Mujahid — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the 'Isha prayer until those who [usually] pray had [already] prayed, those who were awake were awake, those who slept had slept, and those who performed the night [voluntary] prayer had done so. He then came out and said: 'Were it not that I would burden my community, I would command them to pray at this hour — or [at the hour of] this prayer — or something like that.'
