English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq ibn Sulayman and 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith, both from Hanzala, from Salim — that he said: ''Umar ibn al-Khattab brought to the Prophet ﷺ a brocade silk garment [hulla istabraq] and said: "O Messenger of Allah, why not buy this garment and wear it when delegations come to you?" He said: "Only one who has no share [in the Hereafter] wears this." Then three garments were brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he sent one to 'Umar, one to 'Ali, and one to Usama ibn Zayd. 'Umar brought his garment to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, you sent this to me, yet I heard what you said about it." He said: "I sent it to you to sell it, or to cut it into head-coverings [khumur] for your family." — [Ishaq adds:] Usama came wearing the garment, and [the Prophet ﷺ] said: "I did not send it to you to wear it — I only sent it to you to sell it." — ['Abdullah ibn al-Harith adds:] the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at Usama and said: "Was it you who clothed me?" He said: "Cut it up among your women as head-coverings, or use it as you need."'
