حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَل
َّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَّرَ أُسَامَةَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فَطَعَنَ النَّاسُ فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ تَطْعَنُوا فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَدْ طَعَنْتُمْ فِي إِمَارَةِ أَبِيهِ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَمِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ وَإِنَّ ابْنَهُ هَذَا لَأَحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ بَعْدَهُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya, from Sufyan, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that he said: 'I heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar say: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Usama as commander over a people, and the people criticized his command. He said: 'If you criticize his command, you already criticized his father's command before it. By Allah, he was truly worthy of command, and he was one of the most beloved of people to me — and this his son [Usama] is the most beloved of people to me after him.'"'
