حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سُئِلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ وَحَج
َجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ وَأَنَا لَا أَصُومُهُ وَلَا آمُرُ بِهِ وَلَا أَنْهَى عَنْهُ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً عَمَّنْ سَأَلَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ

English Translation
Isma'il ibn Ibrahim and Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, they said: Ibn Abi Najih narrated to us, from his father who said: Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) was asked about fasting on the Day of 'Arafah. He said: 'I performed Hajj with the Prophet ﷺ and he did not fast it, and with Abu Bakr and he did not fast it, and with 'Umar and he did not fast it, and with 'Uthman and he did not fast it. I do not fast it, nor do I command it, nor do I forbid it.'
