English Translation

'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Musa ibn 'Uqbah, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut down and burned the palm trees of Banu al-Nadir. Regarding this, the poet [Hassan ibn Thabit] composed: 'The fire in the heights of al-Buwayrah was easy for the nobles of Banu Luayy [Quraysh].' Then Allah revealed: {Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by the permission of Allah} [al-Hashr 59:5].
