حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ وَاصَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ

سَلَّمَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَوَاصَلَ النَّاسُ فَقَالُوا نَهَيْتَنَا عَنْ الْوِصَالِ وَأَنْتَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ إِنِّي أُطْعَمُ وَأُسْقَى

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya, from 'Ubayd Allah, from Nafi' — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ practiced wisal [continuous fasting without breaking at nightfall] in Ramadan, and the people practiced it too. They said: "You have forbidden us from wisal, yet you yourself practice it." He said: "I am not like any of you — I am [given] food and drink [by Allah]."'
