English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ibn Numayr, from Fudayl ibn Ghazwan, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to Fatima and found a curtain at her door. He did not enter — and he rarely visited anyone without starting with her. 'Ali came and found her distressed. He said: 'What is the matter with you?' She said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me but did not enter.' 'Ali went to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Fatima was greatly distressed that you came to her but did not enter.' He said: 'What have I to do with the worldly life? What have I to do with embroidered fabric [al-raqm]?' He went to Fatima and told her what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said. She said: 'Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: what does he command me to do with it?' He said: 'Tell her to send it to such-and-such people.'
