English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Asbat ibn Muhammad, from al-A'mash, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abdullah, from Sa'd (freed slave of Talha) — that he said: 'I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a hadith — had I heard it only once or twice' — until he counted seven times — 'but I have heard it more than that. He said: "Al-Kifl of the Children of Israel showed no restraint from any sin he committed. A woman came to him and he gave her sixty dinars on condition that he would be intimate with her. When he was positioned to be with her as a man is with his wife, she trembled and wept. He said: What makes you weep? Did I compel you? She said: No, but this is something I have never done before — only my need has brought me to it. He said: You would do this, having never done it before? He then got up, left her, and said: Go — the dinars are yours. Then he said: By Allah, al-Kifl will never disobey Allah again. He died that very night, and in the morning it was written on his door: Allah (عز وجل) has forgiven al-Kifl."'
