English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Affan, from Wuhayb, from Muslim ibn Abi Maryam, from 'Ali ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Mu'awi — that a man prayed beside Ibn 'Umar and began fiddling with pebbles. He said: 'Do not fiddle with pebbles — for it is from Shaytan. Rather, do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do.' — [Wuhayb demonstrated it and 'Affan described it:] he placed his left hand open on his left knee, and placed his right hand on his right knee, curling his fingers as if clasping, and pointed with the index finger.
