English Translation

It was narrated — via Bahz and 'Affan, from Hammam, from Qatada ['Affan's version: from Safwan ibn Muhriz] — that he said: 'I was holding Ibn 'Umar's hand when a man came to him and asked: "How did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ speak about the private discourse [al-najwa] on the Day of Resurrection?" He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Allah (عز وجل) will bring the believer close, place His cover [kanaf] over him, and screen him from people. He will make him acknowledge his sins, saying: "Do you recognize such-and-such sin? Do you recognize such-and-such sin? Do you recognize such-and-such sin?" — until when He has made him acknowledge all his sins and the believer sees in himself that he is ruined — He will say: "I concealed them for you in the world, and I forgive them for you today." Then he will be given his record of good deeds. As for the disbelievers and hypocrites — the witnesses will proclaim: "These are those who lied against their Lord; the curse of Allah be upon the wrongdoers" [11:18].'","'
