Hadith #198

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Husayn al-Mu'allim, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from Tawus — from the Prophet ﷺ — that he said: 'It is not permissible for a man to give a gift and then take it back — except a parent [reclaiming] what he gave his child. And the example of one who gives a gift and then takes it back is like a dog that eats until it is full, then vomits and returns to its vomit.'
