‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو جَنَابٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي حَيَّةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏لَقَدْ ‏ ‏رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا صَاحِبُ الدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ بِأَحَقَّ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ ثُمَّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا بِأَخَرَةٍ الْآنَ وَلَلدِّينَارُ وَالدِّرْهَمُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَحَدِنَا مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ ‏

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Abu Janab Yahya ibn Abi Hayya, from Shahr ibn Hawshab — that he heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar say: 'We used to see a time when the owner of a dinar or dirham had no more right than his Muslim brother. Then later — now — the dinar and dirham have become more beloved to each of us than his Muslim brother.
