Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَنَابٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي حَيَّةَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا صَاحِبُ الدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ بِأَحَقَّ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ ثُمَّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا بِأَخَرَةٍ الْآنَ وَلَلدِّينَارُ وَالدِّرْهَمُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَحَدِنَا مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Abu Janab Yahya ibn Abi Hayya, from Shahr ibn Hawshab — that he heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar say: 'We used to see a time when the owner of a dinar or dirham had no more right than his Muslim brother. Then later — now — the dinar and dirham have become more beloved to each of us than his Muslim brother.
