حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْ

هِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاصَلَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَوَاصَلَ النَّاسُ فَنَهَاهُمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أُطْعَمُ وَأُسْقَى

English Translation

Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, 'Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ practiced continuous fasting [wisal] during Ramadan, so the people practiced continuous fasting. He prohibited them and they said: 'But you practice continuous fasting!' He said: 'I am not like you. I am fed and given drink [by my Lord].'
