حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُصَ

لِّي فِي اللَّيْلِ وَيُوتِرُ رَاكِبًا عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ لَا يُبَالِي حَيْثُ وَجَّهَهُ قَالَ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَنَا سَالِمًا يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْثُرُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Affan, from Wuhayb, from Musa ibn 'Uqba, from Salim — that 'Abdullah used to pray [voluntarily] at night and perform Witr on his camel, whichever direction it faced, not caring [about the direction]. [Musa] said: 'And I myself saw Salim doing the same.' And Nafi' informed him, from 'Abdullah, that he had traced this practice back to the Prophet ﷺ.
