English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata', from Sa'id, from Qatada, from Safwan ibn Muhriz — that he said: 'While Ibn 'Umar was performing tawaf of the House, a man came up to him and said: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, how did you hear the Prophet ﷺ speak regarding al-najwa [the private reckoning]?" He said: "The believer will draw near to his Lord on the Day of Resurrection as if he were a young lamb [badhaj] — and He will shelter him and screen him. Then He will say: Do you recognize [your sin]? He will say: My Lord, I recognize it. He will say: Do you recognize it? He will say: My Lord, I recognize it. He will say: I concealed it for you in the world and today I forgive it for you — and he will be given the record of his good deeds. As for the disbelievers and hypocrites, they will be called out before all witnesses: These are the ones who lied about their Lord — indeed, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers."' Sa'id said: and Qatada said: 'And no one will be shamed on that Day whose shame is hidden from the creatures.'
