English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from Abu al-Sha'tha' — that he said: 'It was said to Ibn 'Umar: "We enter upon our rulers and say one thing [agreeing with them], then when we leave we say otherwise." He said: "In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to consider this to be hypocrisy [nifaq]."'
