حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ

سَلَّمَ قَالَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَلَاءِ وَعَنْ هِبَتِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَسَأَلَهُ عَنْهُ ابْنُهُ حَمْزَةُ

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Affan, from Shu'ba, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — from the Prophet ﷺ — that he forbade the sale of wala' [patronage rights] and the gifting of it. [Shu'ba] said: 'I asked: "Did you hear this from Ibn 'Umar?" He said: "Yes — and his son Hamza also asked him about it."'
