It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Husayn ibn Muhammad, from Ayyub ibn Jabir, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Isma — that he said: 'The prayer was [first ordained as] fifty, and ghusl from janaba was seven times, and washing from urine was seven times. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept asking [for reduction] until the prayer was reduced to five, ghusl from janaba [was reduced] to once, and washing from urine [was reduced] to once.'
