Hadith #65

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ عَنِ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ لَا يَظْلِمُهُ وَلَا يَخْذُلُهُ وَيَقُولُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ مَا تَوَادَّ اثْنَانِ فَفُرِّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِذَنْبٍ يُحْدِثُهُ أَحَدُهُمَا وَكَانَ يَقُولُ لِلْمَرْءِ الْمُسْلِمِ عَلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ الْمَعْرُوفِ سِتٌّ يُشَمِّتُهُ إِذَا عَطَسَ وَيَعُودُهُ إِذَا مَرِضَ وَيَنْصَحُهُ إِذَا غَابَ وَيَشْهَدُهُ وَيُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا لَقِيَهُ وَيُجِيبُهُ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَتْبَعُهُ إِذَا مَاتَ وَنَهَى عَنْ هِجْرَةِ الْمُسْلِمِ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Musa ibn Dawud, from Ibn Lahi'a, from Khalid ibn Abi 'Imran, from Nafi' — that the Prophet ﷺ used to say: 'A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim — he does not wrong him and does not abandon him.' He would also say: 'By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul — no two people love each other and are then separated except on account of a sin one of them commits.' He also said: 'A Muslim man owes his brother six things from what is good: he says yarhamukallah when he sneezes; he visits him when he is ill; he advises him sincerely in his absence; he attends his gatherings and greets him when he meets him; he responds to him when he invites him; and he follows his funeral when he dies.' And he forbade a Muslim from boycotting his brother for more than three [days].
