English Translation
It was narrated — via Khalaf ibn al-Walid, from al-Hudhayl ibn Bilal, from Ibn 'Ubayd, from his father — that one day he was sitting in Mecca alongside 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما). His father said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The example of the hypocrite on the Day of Resurrection is like a sheep between two flocks — if it goes to one they butt it, and if it goes to the other they butt it."' Ibn 'Umar said to him: 'You have lied.' The people praised his father favorably. Ibn 'Umar said: 'I do not think your companion is anything but as you say — but I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "like a sheep between two flocks."' The man said: 'That is the same thing.' He said: 'That is how I heard it.'
