English Translation
It was narrated — via Hasan ibn Musa, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu Yahya, from Ibn 'Abbas — that two men brought their dispute to the Prophet ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the claimant for evidence, but he had none. He then asked the defendant to swear, and he swore by Allah besides Whom there is no god. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You did indeed do it, but you have been forgiven on account of your sincere utterance of "la ilaha illa Allah."' — [Second chain:] via Hasan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما), from the Prophet ﷺ — similar, except that he said: 'Jibril (عليه السلام) informed me that you did do it, but Allah has forgiven you.'
