English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu al-Yaman, from Shu'ayb, from al-Zuhri, from Salim ibn 'Abdullah — that 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ while he was standing on the pulpit say: "Lo! Your remaining [time] compared to those nations that came before you is like [the time] between 'Asr prayer and the setting of the sun. The People of the Torah were given the Torah and worked by it until midday, then they became weary and were given a qirat each. The People of the Injil were given the Injil and worked by it until 'Asr prayer, then they became weary and were given a qirat each. Then you were given the Quran and worked by it until the sun set, and you were given two qirats each. The People of the Torah and Injil said: 'Our Lord, these people did less work and received more reward.' He said: 'Have I wronged you any of your wage?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'That is My grace — I bestow it upon whom I will.'"'
