English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Hashim and Hujayn, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abdullah, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The parable of the believer is like a tree that does not shed its leaves."' He said: 'The people [guessed] trees of the desert, but in my heart I felt it was the date palm, yet I felt too shy to speak. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "It is the date palm."' He said: 'I mentioned that to 'Umar, and he said: "My son, what prevented you from speaking? By Allah, if you had said it, I would have preferred that to such-and-such."'
