English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yunus, from Layth, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ burned and cut down the date palms of Banu al-Nadir — which is al-Buwayra. Then Allah (تبارك وتعالى) revealed: "Whatever you have cut down of palm trees or left standing on their trunks — it was by permission of Allah, and so that He might disgrace the defiantly disobedient" [59:5].
