حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ

عُبَيْدَةَ سَمِعَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ وَالْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ لَا تَحْلِفْ بِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ وَأَشْرَكَ

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sulayman ibn Hayyan, from al-Hasan ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubayda — that Ibn 'Umar heard a man say: 'By the Ka'ba!' He said: 'Do not swear by other than Allah — for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever swears by other than Allah has committed disbelief [kufr] and polytheism [shirk]."'
