حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فَجِئْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ وَتَرَكْتُ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلًا مِنْ كِنْدَةَ فَجَاءَ الْكِنْدِيُّ مُرَوَّعًا فَ
قُلْتُ مَا وَرَاءَكَ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ آنِفًا فَقَالَ أَحْلِفُ بِالْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ احْلِفْ بِرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَحْلِفُ بِأَبِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَحْلِفْ بِأَبِيكَ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubayda — that he said: 'I was sitting with 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar when I went to Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, leaving behind with him a man from Kinda. The Kindite man came [to me] frightened. I said: "What is the matter?" He said: "A man came just now to 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar and said: 'Shall I swear by the Ka'ba?' He said: 'Swear by the Lord of the Ka'ba — for 'Umar used to swear by his father, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Do not swear by your father — for whoever swears by other than Allah has committed shirk.""'"'
