English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sulayman ibn Hayyan, from al-Hasan ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubayda — that Ibn 'Umar heard a man say: 'Tonight is the middle [of the month].' He said: 'How do you know it is the middle? Rather, it is the fifteenth. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The month is like this, and like this, and like this"' — and Abu Khalid [the narrator] joined his fingers on the third [gesture, indicating twenty-nine days].
