English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Ubayda ibn Humayd, from Mansur ibn al-Mu'tamir, from Mujahid — that he said: 'I and 'Urwa ibn al-Zubayr entered the mosque and found 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, so we sat with him. Then we saw some men praying Duha. We said: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, what is this prayer?" He said: "An innovation." We asked him: "How many times did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform 'umra?" He said: "Four times, one of them in Rajab." We were too shy to contradict him. Then we heard the sound of 'A'isha (the Mother of the Believers) using the tooth-stick. 'Urwa ibn al-Zubayr said to her: "O Mother of the Believers, do you not hear what Abu 'Abd al-Rahman is saying? He says the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed 'umra four times, one of them in Rajab." She said: "May Allah have mercy on Abu 'Abd al-Rahman — he was present at every 'umra the Prophet ﷺ performed, and he never performed any 'umra in Rajab."'
