English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ya'qub, from his father, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn 'Abdullah — that he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Lo! Your remaining [time] compared to those nations that came before you is like [the time] between 'Asr prayer and the setting of the sun. The People of the Torah were given the Torah and worked until midday, then they became weary and were given a qirat each. Then the People of the Injil were given the Injil and worked until 'Asr prayer, then they became weary and were given a qirat each. Then we were given the Quran and worked until the sun set, and we were given two qirats each. The People of the Two Books said: Our Lord, why did You give these people two qirats each and give us one qirat each, when we worked more than them? Allah (تعالى) said: Have I wronged you any of your wages? They said: No. He said: That is My grace — I bestow it upon whom I will."'
