English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ya'qub, from his father, from Salih, from Nafi' — that 'Abdullah informed him that the mosque during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was built of mud brick, its roof of palm fronds, and its columns of palm trunks. Abu Bakr did not add anything to it. 'Umar added to it and built it according to the construction in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — using mud brick and palm fronds — and restored its columns from wood. Then 'Uthman changed it and greatly expanded it: he built its walls of dressed stone and plaster, made its columns of dressed stone, and its roof of teak wood.
