English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu al-Mughira, from Safwan, from Shurayh ibn 'Ubayd al-Hadrami, who heard al-Zubayr ibn al-Walid narrating — that he said: 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on a military expedition or a journey and night overtook him, he would say: "O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge with Allah from your evil, from the evil of what is in you, from the evil of what was created in you, and from the evil of what crawls upon you. I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of every lion, every black [serpent], every snake and scorpion, from the evil of the inhabitants of the land, and from the evil of every father and what he begot."'
