English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Isma'il ibn 'Umar, from Kathir ibn Zayd, from al-Muttalib ibn 'Abdullah — that he was standing at 'Arafat and looked at the sun when it had descended like a shield toward setting. He wept, and his weeping intensified. A man beside him said: 'O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, you have stood here with me many times — why do you do this?' He said: 'I remembered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing in this very place of mine, saying: "O people! What remains of your worldly life compared to what has already passed is only like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has already passed of it."'
