حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ يَأْمُرُ بِالْحَرْبَةِ فَتُوضَعُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَيُصَلِّي إِلَيْهَا وَالنَّاسُ وَرَاءَهُ وَكَانَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فِي السَّفَرِ فَمِنْ ثَمَّ اتَّخَذَهَا الْأُمَرَاءُ
English Translation
Ibn Numayr narrated to us, 'Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he went out on the day of Eid, would order the short spear [harbah] to be placed in front of him, and he would pray toward it, with the people behind him. He used to do this while traveling as well.
