English Translation
Ya'la narrated to us, Fudayl — meaning Ibn Ghazwan — narrated to us, from Abu Dihqanah, from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) who said: 'Some people were with the Prophet ﷺ, and he called Bilal for some dates that he had. Bilal brought some mixed-quality dates. the Prophet ﷺ said: "Where did you get these?" He said: "We had inferior dates, so I sold two sa's of them for one sa' [of better dates] to feed the Prophet ﷺ." the Prophet ﷺ said: "This is the very essence of riba! Do not do this. Rather, if you want to buy, sell the dates in a separate transaction, then buy with the proceeds."'
