حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ع
َلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُطِيعٍ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِأَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ضَعُوا لَهُ وِسَادَةً فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِنَّمَا جِئْتُ لِأُحَدِّثَكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ نَزَعَ يَدًا مِنْ طَاعَةٍ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا حُجَّةَ لَهُ وَمَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ مَفَارِقٌ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ فَإِنَّهُ يَمُوتُ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً

English Translation
Abd al-Malik ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Hisham — meaning Ibn Sa'd — narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father who said: 'I entered with Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) upon Abdullah ibn Muti'. He said: "Welcome." Then he said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, pledge allegiance to the Commander of the Believers Abd al-Malik, for it is the pledge of allegiance upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger." Ibn 'Umar said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever breaks the pledge of allegiance will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection with no proof for himself, and whoever dies without a pledge of allegiance upon his neck, dies a death of jahiliyyah.'"'
