Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ سَمِعْتُ عَمْرًا أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ أَوْسٍ سَمِعَهُ
مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَهُ وَيَقُومُ ثُلُثَهُ وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ وَكَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sufyan, who heard 'Amr, from 'Amr ibn Aws — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The most beloved fasting to Allah is the fasting of Dawud (عليه السلام), and the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of Dawud. He used to sleep half the night, stand [in prayer] a third of it, then sleep a sixth. And he fasted one day and broke fast one day — and he never fled [from battle].'
