English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Akhnas, from al-Walid ibn 'Abdullah, from Yusuf ibn Mahak — that he said: 'I used to write down everything I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanting to memorize it. [Some people of] Quraysh told me: "You write everything you hear from him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a human who sometimes speaks in anger and contentment." So I refrained [from writing]. I then mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he pointed to his mouth and said: "Write — for by the One in Whose hand my soul is, nothing comes from it except the truth."'
