حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى عَل

َى بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَأَلْقَاهُ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا شَرٌّ هَذَا حِلْيَةُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَأَلْقَاهُ فَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya, from Ibn 'Ajlan, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — that the Prophet ﷺ saw on one of his Companions a gold ring, and turned away from him. [The man] threw it away and took an iron ring. He said: 'This is worse — this is the adornment of the people of Hell.' So he threw it away [too] and took a silver ring.
