English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach them words to say at bedtime [as a refuge] from fright: 'In the name of Allah — I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His wrath, His punishment, the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and their presence [near me].' He said: 'And 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr used to teach these words to each of his children who had reached [the age of understanding], to say at bedtime. And for those too young to comprehend them, he would write them down and hang them around their necks.'
